Delany in which he recounts his experiences as a gay African American in an open marriage. It features appearances by Albert Einstein, Bob Dylan, Stokely Carmichael, W. H. Auden, and James Baldwin. Hazel Carby considers it "absolutely central to any consideration of black manhood... Delany's vision of the necessity for total social and political change is revolutionary." The introduction puts an emphasis on the idea of the unreliable narrator; Delany recounts his life as it "feels", not as it actually occurred.
