THE N

'The N' (abbr. for 'The Nighttime Network For Teens') is a television channel in the United States aimed at teenagers and young adults, running between 6pm and 6am ET (3pm and 3am PT).
During the day, the channel is known as Noggin, which is targeted toward pre-schoolers. The channel was founded as Noggin by Viacom and Sesame Workshop, with the latter eventually selling their stake in the company to Viacom.
Initially, The N ran completely commercial-free, like most of Viacom's other digital cable channels and Disney-owned Disney Channel, the channel broke programs only to run self-promotion spots for the channel and other shows on it, and occasionally to run music videos. In May 2004, The N began running commercials for products targeted at the channel's market.
On December 31, 2007, [1] The N's sister channel, Nickelodeon GAS, is slated to leave the digital cable channel lineup and become an online-only service, with The N slated to take over Nick GAS's channel position after splitting from Noggin, which will become a 24-hour channel. DirecTV has confirmed that they will air both Noggin and The N. It is unknown if Dish Network, even though it carries Nick GAS, will carry The N in their lineup. [2]
