THE STAR OF NANCHANG
'The Star of Nanchang', the world's tallest ferris wheel, stands at 160 meters (525 feet) high and is located in the eastern Chinese city of Nanchang, the provincial capital of Jiangxi Province. It opened for business in May of 2006, and cost 57 million Yuan (roughly $7.3 million) to build.[1]
Tickets for the Star of Nanchang cost 50 Yuan (just over US$6).
The Star of Nanchang has 60 enclosed climate-controlled gondolas, each carrying up to 8 passengers, for a maximum capacity of 480 passengers. A single rotation of the ferris wheel takes approximately 30 minutes; the slow rotation speed allows passengers to embark and disembark from the gondolas without any need for the rotation to be stopped.
The Star of Nanchang will be surpassed in height by the Singapore Flyer when the latter is scheduled to open in early 2008 at 165 meters (541 feet) high.
