History

The Used formed 1994 under the name "Strange Itch", the band consisted of Jeph Howard, Branden Steineckert, Joel Pack, and Matt Brown. The band put out one album in 1998 and lasted until Quinn Allman took over the guitar in 1999 and at this point Strange Itch changed its name to "Dumb Luck". In 2000, an EP called the The Naked Truth was released. Not long after the release, there was another line up change as Howard moved to bass and Bert McCracken took over the vocals. Dumb Luck was short-lived and the band changed its name to "Used" when Bert came into the line up. [1] At that point in time, Drummer Steineckert sent their songs to producer John Feldman from the punk group Goldfinger. After he heard "A Box Full of Sharp Objects" he called them in for a demo. In 2001, the band finished the demo and he got them signed to Reprise Records all within a few months of meeting them. During 2001, the band underwent another name change, as it was discovered a Boston band had already taken the name "Used". It was then changed to "The Used", since then The Used have released three studio albums, two of which ("The Used", "In Love And Death") have gone platinum.

Present Day and Future Plans

The band plans on releasing two EPs according to an interview in the May 2007 article of ''Blunt Magazine''. The EPs are expected to be released later this year and early next year. It is rumored that they are also planning on releasing a live DVD of their Australian tour, however it is unknown which show will appear on the DVD as both the Melbourne and Sydney shows were filmed, on the 26th and 27th of May 2007.
The band is currently engaged on a U.S. headlining tour to run from the East to West Coast. They will then headline the international leg of the 2007 Taste Of Chaos tour. The band has been announced as the headliner for the inaugural "Get a Life Tour", sponsored by Kevin Lyman and set to run on college campuses in the spring of 2008.

Steineckert's Departure

In September 12, 2006 it was announced that Steineckert was no longer the drummer of the Used. The Used expressed that they needed to move forward without him but owed him a great deal of gratitude for all his hard work over the years. All the same, they wished him the best for his future endeavours. Steineckert is now the drummer of the band Rancid. Later that year, it was announced drummer Dan Whitesides from the New Transit Direction replaced Branden Steineckert.
