THOMAS ANSON, 1ST VISCOUNT ANSON

'Thomas Anson, 1st Viscount Anson' (14 February 1767 – 31 July 1818) was a British politician and peer.
Anson was the son of George Adams, who later changed the family name to Anson in 1773, after inheriting Shugborough Hall from his maternal uncle, Lord Anson. On his father's death in 1789, Anson succeeded him as MP for Lichfield and held the post until 1806, when he was succeeded by his brother, George. On leaving the Commons that year, Anson was created Viscount Anson, of Shugborough and Orgrave, Co. Stafford and Baron Soberton, of Soberton, Co. Southampton.
On 15 September 1794, Anson had married Lady Anne Coke (the second daughter of the 1st Earl of Leicester of Holkham) and they had seven children:

★ Hon. Charles Littleton Anson (d. 1812, killed by an exploding gun aboard HMS ''Bacchante'')

★ Hon. Anna Margaret Anson (d. 1882), married the 4th Earl of Rosebery.

★ Hon. Frances Elizabeth (d. 1881), married (1) Hon. Charles Murray, a son of the 4th Earl of Mansfield and Mansfield, (2) Ambrose Isted.

★ Hon. Frederica Sophia (d. 1867), married Hon. Bouverie Primrose, a son of the 4th Earl of Rosebery.

★ Hon. Elizabeth Jane Anson (d. 1894), married the 3rd Baron Waterpark.
