In this segment, Pastor N.C. Turner explains: 1) How Christ's vicarious sacrifice expiated our sins, propitiated God's wrath, and perfected those who come to Him in faith alone. 2) How the law of God could not make fallen man perfect before or after regeneration: For if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain (Galatians 2:21). 3) And how the justified render obedience unto God out of gratitude for what Christ did for them, not in order to merit salvation, nor to maintain it. The Bible says, "A man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified" (Galatians 2:16). |

 | The Monty Collier Report: Sermons by Nelson C. Turner 2:1 What is the extent of God's Sovereignty? Is God really in Control of all things? The pagan philosopher Plato believed that God could not possibly in control of all things, for then how could man explain the origin of evil? How could God be good if He is the cause of evil? Plato wrote, "Let this be one of our rules and principles concerning the gods, to which our poets and reciters will be expected to conform--that God is not the author of all things, but of good only" (The Republic, Book 2, Page 77 [Vintage Classic Edition, March 1991]) Today, you will hear Arminians and Catholics claim that God is not the "author of evil." But, what do they mean by this? If they mean that God can not be charged with evil, then they are right: God is not under any law whatsoever. Jehovah created and owns everything; He can do with creation whatsoever He wills. For example, can God steal? No, for God owns all things. Can God murder? No, for life and death are the Lord's to give as He pleases (1 Samuel 2:2). The Bible says that nothing comes to pass without the God's determinate counsel, Ephesians 1:11. All things are determined by God, and even evil is something. Therefore, even evil is determined by God. Indeed, the Bible plainly states that God is the creator of evil (Isaiah 45:7). The Bible states clearly, "shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?" (Amos 3:6). God determines the evil actions of men in order to accomplish His eternal plan. The Bible says, "He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants" (Psalm 105:25). Scripture also teaches how God determines the evil actions of men, so that He may bring punishment to them. The Bible says, "And The LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner. And there came forth a spirit and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him. And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And He said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so" (1 Kings 22:20-22). The God of the Bible has determined evil for the good of them that love God (Romans 8:28), for the just damnation of the the reprobate (Proverbs 16:4), and even more important: God has determined evil for His own glory (Soli Deo Gloria)! The doctrine of God's Absolute Predestination of all things is a great comfort to the elect, and it is a great terror to those who hate God. |
