History

The western portion of Paraná was only recently colonized, and colonization parties only arrived in Toledo in 1946. The city was officially founded on November 14, 1951, when it was split from the city of Foz do Iguaçu. In the 1960s there were only five cities in this area of Paraná: Foz do Iguaçu, Cascavel, Toledo, Guaira and Guaraniaçu. Between the 1960s and 1970s modernization in agriculture led to Toledo's accelerated urbanization.
