TOM ATKINS (ACTOR)

'Tom Atkins' (born November 13 ,1935 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), is an American actor who has appeared in several films. Atkins has often portrayed police officers, and he appears frequently in John Carpenter movies. He is well known for his role in the 1980 horror film ''The Fog'', in which he played the role of Nick Castle; for his role in the 1986 cult horror film ''Night of the Creeps'', as Detective Ray Cameron; and for his role in the 1987 hit film ''Lethal Weapon'' as Michael Hunsaker. Atkins played Commander Alex Diehl in ''The Rockford Files'' television series in the 1970's and reprised this role for the Rockford Files made-for-television movies in the 1990's.

He is also a frequent player in shows at the Pittsburgh Public Theater, most famously in the one-man show "The Chief," in which he depicts the late founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Art Rooney. He appeared on Broadway in David Storey's ''The Changing Room'', for which he received the 1973 Drama Desk Award for Most Promising Performer.
