TOOTSIE ROLL INDUSTRIES
'Tootsie Roll Industries' () is a manufacturer of confectionery in the United States. Its best-known products have been Tootsie Rolls (chewy chocolate-flavoured candies), and Tootsie Pops (hard candy lollipops filled with chewy chocolate-flavoured Tootsie Rolls).
The company had its origins in 1896, when its founder Leo Hirshfield started to produce Tootsie Rolls in a small store in New York City. In 1917, the company became known as 'The Sweets Company of America', and adopted its current name of 'Tootsie Roll Industries, Inc.' in 1966. The company has acquired several famous brands of confections such as 'Mason Division'(1972; from 'Candy Corporation of America'), 'Cellas' Confections'(1985), 'The Charms Company'(1988), 'The Warner-Lambert Company'(1993; excluding gum & mints), 'Andes Candies'(2000), and 'Concord Confections'(2004).
Tootsie Roll Industries currently markets its brands internationally in Canada, Mexico, and over 30 other countries. The company's heaquarters are located in Chicago.

Tootsie Rolls have been a treat consumed worldwide since Austrian immigrant Leo Hirshfield invented them in 1896. Blow Pops have been produced in New York since 1905, and then in Chicago in 1966. Tootsie Rolls were consumed by United States armed forces during World War II. The consistency of the treat allowed for them to stay firm during shipment. Today, Tootsie Rolls come in many lengths and are found inside lollipops.
