TREATY OF AIX-LA-CHAPELLE (1668)
The 'Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle' (more commonly known as 'The Treaty of Aachen') was signed on May 2, 1668, which ended the War of Devolution between France and Spain. It was mediated by the Triple Alliance of England, the United Provinces and Sweden at the first Congress of Aix-la-Chapelle. France gained Lille and other territories such as Flanders (one of the most important territories) in the Spanish Netherlands from Spain, but returned the Franche-Comté.
