TREVOR GODDARD
'Trevor Goddard' (October 14, 1962 – June 7, 2003) was a former professional boxer turned movie actor. His best known roles are Kano in the first ''Mortal Kombat'' movie and Lieutenant Commander Mic Brumby on ''JAG''.
For much of his career, despite him being English , Goddard passed himself off as being of Australian descent. He was often cast in Australian roles. Goddard, was said to have an affinity for the Australian lifestyle, aiding his attempts to look 'Australian', and had apparently seriously considered permanently moving to Perth, Western Australia. For much of his early days, he did cameo roles in many television shows before his movie career took off. In 1995 , Trevor played possibly his best known role as Kano in the film adaptation of Mortal Kombat. Originally, Kanos character was originally an American orphan raised in Japan, but because of the praise he received from fans of the game for his Australlian rendition of the character, Kano was retconned to being of Australian descent in his honor. Trevor also was known for his role in the hit tv show JAG as Lieutenant Commander Mic Brumby. In a somehwat ironic moment, ''JAG'' gave him a tribute by having the crew sing 'Waltzing Matilda', an Australian folk song, remade from archival footage from a previous episode. He would go on to star in other movies such as Gone In Sixty Seconds and Hollywood Vampyr. He appeared in the movie '' as the pirate Grapple in 2003. This turned out to be his last movie role.
On June 7, 2003, Trevor was found dead in his home in Los Angeles, California. He appearantly died from a drug overdose of heroin, cocaine and the prescription drugs Valium and Vicodin. Although he was often cast in Australian roles he was actually English. This truth was revealed by Goddard's father at his son's funeral, something that not only shocked the entertainment industry, but also shocked his fans. Goddard apparently attempted to tap into the Hollywood demand for Australian actors by disguising his thick London accent with an Australian one. He was so successful that he was accepted by the Australian entertainment industry as one of its own. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
