TREZZO SULL'ADDA BRIDGE

The 'Trezzo sull'Adda Bridge' was the largest arch bridge for over four centuries. Built at Trezzo sull'Adda in Lombardy, Italy in 1377 [1], its 72 metre (237 feet) span was not matched until a metal arch bridge of the same span was built at Sunderland over the River Wear, England in 1796 [2]. Longer span stone arches were not built until the 20th century.
The bridge spanned the Adda River next to Trezzo's castle. It was destroyed in 1416.
