Turkic roots.
Definition
By Turkish or Turkic roots, this could mean roots linking back to the nation of
Turkey and
Cyprus (both
South and
North).
Demographics
According to the
2000 US census, there are 117,575 Americans (and to 2005 American Community Survey there are 164,945) of full or partial Turkish descent
. The
states with the largest Turkish-American populations are
New York,
California,
New Jersey,
Florida,
Texas, and
Illinois. The US cities with the largest Turkish communities are
Paterson, New Jersey,
New York City,
Miami,
Chicago,
Boston, and
Los Angeles.
