Route description

The highway passes through the following states:

North Carolina

★ The highway passes through Pine Bluff and becomes concurrent with U.S. 74 from Chadbourn to Wilmington. The highway is mostly four lanes, divided with at-grade and controlled intersections. The speed limit is 70 mph. It crosses the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge into Wilmington and continues to Wrightsville Beach via Oleander Drive to the route's eastern terminus.

South Carolina

★ Travelers should be warned that in South Carolina, U.S. 76 is a well-traveled route spotted with small towns (many 35 mph zones), factory entrances (45 mph) and municipalities (traffic lights). The highway parallels Interstate 26 to the east, thus it serves as the main local route between the many small industrial towns that dot the landscape between Columbia and Anderson, S.C. The rural drive is slowest between Columbia and Clinton. One may expect to average about 40 mph on a good day between the towns. Past Laurens, one may expect to find fewer travelers until nearing the city of Anderson.

Georgia

★ In Georgia, the highway traverses the northern part of the state and passes through the Chattahoochee National Forest and the Georgia's most mountainous region. From east to west, U.S. Route 76 passes through:

Rabun County, Georgia

Towns County, Georgia

Union County, Georgia

Fannin County, Georgia
