In the fictional universe of ''Star Trek'', the 'USS ''Valiant''' is a Starfleet ship of the ''Defiant''-class. It was in service sometime before and during the Dominion War. It was featured in the '' episode "Valiant".
The USS ''Valiant'' is presumed to be named after the USS ''Valiant'', a 22nd century starship.
The USS ''Valiant'' was a ship of the ''Defiant''-class, and as such an exceptionally powerful warship. The ship was launched under the command of a Starfleet captain and seven officers, but was given a crew of Red Squadron members, an elite group of cadets from Starfleet Academy. Their mission was to circumnavigate the entire Federation, but when war broke out in the Alpha Quadrant, they were caught behind enemy lines. They were then sent on a perilous mission deep in Dominion-held space, they were to seek out a new enemy prototype dreadnought and collect tactical data before returning home. Unfortunately, the captain was killed during a battle and command passed to the most senior cadet, Tim Watters.
Serving under one of their own and operating under field commissions, the crew did not report back to Starfleet Command with their situation but pressed on with their mission, eventually locating and scanning the dreadnought.
However, in an overzealous and overconfident move, the now-Captain Watters believed he had found a weakness in the prototype that would allow the ''Valiant'' to destroy it on its own. Breaking with the parameters of his mission, he led the crew on a daring attempt, breaking radio silence and directly engaging it. The move proved to be a fatal one, as the inexperienced crew overestimated the lethality of their plan, and in the ensuing battle the ''Valiant'' was destroyed, and nearly her entire crew was lost.
