UNITED BLOOD NATION

The 'United Blood Nation' (UBN) is a large Bloods confederation that was originally formed on Rikers Island in 1993 by Leonard Mckenzie (Deadeye), Omar Portee (O.G. Mack) and others for the purpose of the protection of African-American inmates from the more prevalent Hispanic gangs such as the Latin Kings, Ñetas, and Mara Salvatrucha, Crips, and Ku Klux Klan.
By the mid 1990s, thousands of members of Bloods street gangs were establishing themselves as a force among gangs and were continuing steady recruitment. Intelligence reports from 2005 estimate UBN membership at 5,000 in New York City and 7,000 nationwide.[1] Members are regarded as having a propensity for violence and have engaged in illicit drug distribution, homicide, robbery, extortion, and automobile theft.[2]
