UNIVERSITY OF MARY


The 'University of Mary' (abbreviated 'U-Mary', 'U of M') is a four-year Roman Catholic university near Bismarck, North Dakota.
The university is the largest degree granting institution in Bismarck. It also operates accelerated degree programs at satellite locations in North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Kansas, and Missouri.

History


The University of Mary was founded in 1955 by the Sisters of St. Benedict of Annunciation Monastery as a two-year school (the same sisters also established St. Alexius Medical Center). The school incorporated as Mary College, a four-year college, in 1959. The school moved to its own, current campus in 1968. Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 1969, it changed its name to the University of Mary in 1986. The University conferred its first doctorate, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, in 2006.

Athletics


The university's athletic teams are known as the Marauders. The athletic program was formerly a part of the NAIA's Dakota Athletic Conference, but is now be a part of NCAA Division II's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The team colors are blue, orange, and white. The Marauders field teams in 19 varsity sports, including football, soccer, track and field, volleyball, baseball, softball, basketball, wrestling, and tennis.
