VALIANT (STAR TREK)
:''USS Valiant may also refer to USS Valiant (NCC-74210)''
In the fictional universe of Star Trek, the name ''Valiant'' was used by many starships, most of which are part of the Federation Starfleet.
The first ship of the name, 'S.S. ''Valiant''', is a pre-Federation starship. It was mentioned in the original series episode Where No Man Has Gone Before.
Commissioned and launched in 2064, the SS ''Valiant'' was one of the first starships to leave Earth's solar system, and was built under the auspices of the United Earth Space Probe Agency, a parent organization to Starfleet. The ''Valiant'' has never actually appeared onscreen, although many fans speculate that a 'mystery ship' which appears in the opening credits of '' might be the ''Valiant'' (the ship in question appears in the credits immediately after Zefram Cochrane's ''Phoenix'' and before the ''Enterprise (NX-01)'').
The SS ''Valiant'', shortly after launch, was swept off course by a spatial anomaly and found itself at the edge of the Milky Way galaxy, outside the energy barrier which surrounded the galaxy. The ''Valiant'' turned and attempted to re-enter the galaxy by crossing the barrier, whose energy seriously interfered with ship's systems. Trouble quickly arose among the crew when several people onboard began to manifest incredible psychic powers. Things came to a head when the ship's Captain, after frantically consulting his computer about the ESP abilities which were spreading among his crew, ordered the ship to self destruct to prevent the mutated crewmembers from escaping and causing trouble throughout the galaxy. Since the ship's recorder-marker survived, but in a damaged condition, the ''Valiant'' left some indication of its fate for a future ship to find. The ''Enterprise'', under Captain James T. Kirk, did so in the 2260s.
Another ''Valiant'', which had registry number NCC-1223, was lost 50 years previous to stardate 3192.1 in starcluster NGC321. Unlike the previous ''Valiant'', this ship was a Starfleet vessel operating under Federation authority (neither Starfleet nor the Federation existed when the first ''Valiant'' was launched). This ''Valiant's primary mission was to make contact with two warring planets, Eminiar 7 and Vendikar, in the starcluster. When the ''Valiant'' failed to return from her mission, she was listed as MIS (Missing in Space) until Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS ''Enterprise'' (NCC-1701) paid a visit to Eminiar fifty years later. The inhabitants of Eminiar 7 almost kill the entire crew due to a war agreement between themselves and the Vendikans. It is assumed but not directly stated that the crew of the ''Valiant'' had a similar experience, and was unable to escape destruction (for further details, see the episode A Taste of Armageddon).
The third USS ''Valiant'' was an ''Oberth''-class starship, registry number NCC-20000. It was one of three vessels assigned to evacuate survivors from the ''Enterprise-D'' which had crashed on a planet in the Veridian system. It appeared in the final scene of ''.
The fourth USS ''Valiant'' was a ''Defiant''-class starship, registry number NCC-74210. It was used as a training vessel for Red Squad, an elite group of Starfleet cadets. After a Dominion attack killed the ship's senior officers, the cadets were left in command, and decided to take the ship into further battle - at which point it was destroyed, with most of the cadets perishing in battle. ('' episode "Valiant")
A fifth ''Valiant'', NCC-75418, was mentioned in the film ''. It was part of Battle Group Omega assigned to assist the Enterprise-E. Its class is unknown, although based on its registry number it is most likely also a ''Defiant''-class ship.
