VIšEGRAD
'Višegrad' (Cyrillic: Вишеград) is a town and municipality in the eastern part of Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is on the river Drina, located on the road from Goražde and Ustiprača towards Užice in Serbia.
The town is the most widely known cause of the book ''Bridge on the Drina'' written by Ivo Andrić, Nobel prize winning author, whose statue was destroyed in 1992 by Murat Šabanović, a member of a Bosnian Muslim militia, with a sledgehammer. The well known bridge on the Drina in Višegrad is built by Mehmed Paša Sokolović in 1571. It is still standing strong and it is an attraction for many tourists who come to Višegrad just to take a walk across.
The local football club, FK Drina HE Višegrad, plays in the First League of the Republika Srpska.
