Station History

WCAY 620 signed on sometime in the mid-1960s as Columbia's first Country music radio station. The station gained a reputation for its right-wing politics and some would say racist attitude. The morning host threw in lots of conservative commentary and views on school desegregation.
By the early 70s, the station faced stiff competition as WCOS-FM became the dominate Country station in the market as well as serious financial problems due to station mismanagement. The station was sold, becoming WLFF, with an Adult Standards format. In the mid 1980's the station was sold again and the station became WTGH with a Urban Gospel/Inspiration format.
in 2003, the station was sold to Glory Communications, which kept the format, but changed the call letters to WGCV.
The station is owned by Glory Communications, which also owns WFMV and WQXL in the Columbia radio market.
