WMBD (AM)

'WMBD (AM)' ia an AM radio station located in Peoria, Illinois. The station was a broadcast pioneer as it started broadcasting in 1927. The call letters stand for "World's Most Beautiful Drive" a statement made by Teddy Roosevelt on a visit to Peoria and Grand View Drive, where the station was originally located. WMBD broadcasts on 1470 kHz in AM stereo with a power of 5.000 watts. WMBD has a news-talk format.
WMBD has always been a full-service radio station. Past personalities included Bob Carlton, Farmer Bill, Milton Budd, and John Williams (now at WGN). The station always had a strong agri-business presence and for many years had a noon farm show. That show is now on sister station WIRL. Colleen Callahan was the longtime ag director. The station for many years until 2001 was a CBS radio affiliate.
Current personalities include Dan DiOrio, Greg Batton, Jamie Markley, and Phil Luciano. The station carries Rush Limbaugh and is a radio affiliate of the Fox network. WMBD has broadcast Bradley University basketball games for over 60 years. Current Bradley announcer is Dave Snell who has been doing Bradley play-by-play for over 25 years. WMBD also carries St. Louis Cardinal baseball games.
WMBD is no longer co-owned with WMBD-TV channel 31. The owner of WMBD is Triad Broadcasting, and sister stations in Peoria include WIRL, WPBG, WDQX, WXCL, and WSWT.
