'WPTT (1360)' is a talk radio station that serves the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania market. Owned by Renda Broadcasting, the station operates at 1360 kHz with a power of 5,000 watts daytime, 1,000 watts nighttime, and is licensed to McKeesport, Pennsylvania.
The station has applied to switch frequencies with WAVL-AM in Apollo, Pennsylvania, moving from AM 1360 to the stronger AM 910 and increasing power on the new frequency.
The station began with the call letters WMCK, and was a top 40 station with the call letters ''WIXZ'' ("Wick-zee 1360") beginning in 1969. Hampered as a suburban station with a limited nighttime signal, it would later go through different formats and owners before switching to its current format in 1999, at which time the WPTT call letters (formerly on channel 22 in Pittsburgh) were adopted. In all of its incarnations since WMCK, the radio station has positioned itself as a Pittsburgh outlet, rather than directly addressing the suburb of McKeesport.
The programming on 'WPTT' consists of local (Pittsburgh) and nationally syndicated talk shows. The weekday content as a whole leans left of center, though much of the programming is apolitical in nature.
The schedule:
★ 5-7 AM Simulcast of WTAE-TV's local morning news
★ 7-9 AM Laura Ingraham. Ingraham is the only conservative talker on the daily schedule.
★ 9 AM-12 N Lynn Cullen. Cullen is a fairly popular and longstanding liberal talk host in the Pittsburgh area.
★ 12 N-3 PM Thom Hartmann. Hartmann was added to the schedule after his program was used to fill in while Cullen was on vacation. Cullen's fans were pleased and requested to WPTT that Hartmann be placed on the schedule.
★ 3-6 PM Doug Hoerth. Hoerth's program, which used to air in morning drive before Hartmann entered the schedule, is primarily general interest. Hoerth's politics are usually centrist in nature.
★ 6-10 PM Clark Howard.
★ 10 PM-1 AM Alan Colmes.
★ 1-5 AM Coast to Coast AM. The highly unusual item about this show is that WPTT is one of two stations in the Pittsburgh market to carry the show. The other is Clear Channel Communications-owned WPGB.
★ While its weekday lineup is generally liberal, the weekend is markedly more conservative, with Matt Drudge, Monica Crowley, and Mike Gallagher all in the weekend schedules. Self-help and paid programming is also present on the weekend.
