WALTER HAYS SCHOOL

'Walter Hays School' is an elementary school in Palo Alto, California at the intersection of Middlefield Road and Embarcadero Road. Part of the Palo Alto Unified School District, it was named after a Presbyterian minister who was instrumental in the creation of Palo Alto High School. Graduates of Walter Hays generally attend Jordan Middle School and Palo Alto High School. The mascot of Walter Hays is the Wild cat.
In 2000, the state of California instituted the Academic Performance Index, or API. Walter Hays was the highest-ranking elementary school in the state that year, with a score of 958 out of 1000.
