(Redirected from Warmia-Masuria Voivodeship)

'Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship' (also "'Warmia-Masuria Province'" — Polish: ''województwo warmińsko-mazurskie'') is a voivodeship, or province, in northeastern Poland. Its capital is Olsztyn. It has an area of 24,202 km² and a population of 1,432,505 (as of 2005).
Warmia-Masuria Province was created January 1, 1999, out of the former Olsztyn Voivodeship and parts of Suwałki and Elbląg Voivodeships, pursuant to the 1998 Local Government Reorganization Act. The province's name recalls the region's two historic districts, Warmia and Mazury (in English, often rendered as "Masuria"), and is also referred to in Polish as "'''Warmia i Mazury'''" ("Warmia and Mazury").
The province lies south of Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast. Most of the area was once the southern part of East Prussia.
