WEBB HORTON HOUSE

'Webb Horton House', also known as 'Morrisson Hall', is a 40-room mansion in Middletown, New York. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The mansion was designed by Frank J. Lindsey for oil and textile magnate Webb Horton, for whom Middletown's Horton Memorial Hospital and Webb Horton Presbyterian Church are also named. Construction of the main building was begun in 1902 and completed in 1906. The time to enjoy it was brief, however, as all four members of the Horton family died over the next twelve years.
Eugene Horton, the last to die, willed the estate to his cousin and employee, John Morrisson. Morrisson, a farmer, reluctantly took care of the estate until his death in 1947. His will left the estate to Horton Hospital, who in turn sold the grounds to the county for the founding of Orange County Community College in 1950. While many more modern buildings have been developed on the campus, the mansion, stables, and other outbuildings are still used for educational, administrative, and custodial purposes.
