WEDGE ANCHOR

A 'wedge anchor' is a type of fastener used to attach a fixture to a solid base material (such as concrete). The installed end of the anchor has a conical portion around which a metal clip is fastened. When the anchor is set (usually through application of a tension load through torqing a nut) the cone pulls up through the clip and expands the clip against the side walls of the hole. This gives the anchor its resistance to tension.
