WENTWORTH (UK PARLIAMENT CONSTITUENCY)


'Wentworth' is a parliamentary constituency in South Yorkshire. Originally created in 1918, it was abolished in 1950 but the name was revived when the current constituency was created in 1983. It is considered a safe Labour seat and was held by the incumbent MP John Healey at the 2005 general election.

Wentworth constituency consists of the northern Borough of Rotherham and part of the Borough of Barnsley. It borders the constituencies of Barnsley East and Mexborough, Barnsley West and Penistone, Don Valley, Rotherham, Rother Valley and Sheffield Hillsborough.
Boundary review

Following their review of parliamentary representation in South Yorkshire, the Boundary Commission for England has created an extended Wentworth constituency to include electoral wards from Barnsley. This new Wentworth and Dearne will be fought for the first time at the 2009 or 2010 election.
