WEST BROMPTON

'West Brompton' is an area of West London, within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The name refers to the older locality of Brompton to the east, although the areas of South Kensington and Earl's Court separate the West Brompton from its namesake. Whilst in the early part of the 20th century, the whole area between Knightsbridge and here would have been known as Brompton [1], modern-day locals would not recognise Brompton and West Brompton as geographically continuous.
The area now referred to as West Brompton centres on the Underground & railway station with the same name. The most notable place of interest in West Brompton is Brompton Cemetery. The Earl's Court exhibition centre is literally across the road from the station, but has its main entrance elsewhere and is generally associated with the adjacent locality of Earl's Court. In reality, the number of households who might identify themselves as part of West Brompton would probably be those within the catchment area of the Underground station.
West Brompton is bounded by West Kensington and Earl's Court to the north, Chelsea to the east, Fulham Broadway to the south and Fulham to the west.
The nearest significant local centres are North End Road to the west (which includes a street market), Fulham Broadway to the south and Earl's Court to the north.
West Brompton F.C. was a 19th century pioneer football team, who played in the defunct West London Cup along with the likes of Fulham F.C. and QPR.
