Gorilla''. Population estimates vary, but it is likely that there are approximately 80-100 thousand individuals of this species; nearly all are of the nominate
Western Lowland Gorilla ''G. g. gorilla'' subspecies, but there are as many as 300 individuals of the
Cross River Gorilla ''G. g. diehli'' subspecies.
[ Cross River Gorilla ] Wild western gorillas are known to use tools.
