History
The school has its early origins in 1958, when it opened as a co-ed institution. It wasn't until 1962 that Westlake Girls' and Westlake Boys High School emerged as separate schools, though they maintain relations.
Westlake Girls and Boys
Physically merely a few hundred metres apart, Westlake Girls and Westlake Boys engage in an annual theatrical production together, several joint musical ensembles (including a joint choir, two orchestras, a concert band and a jazz band), and some social dances, among other things. The two schools share a motto - 'Virtute Experiamur'; 'Let Courage Be Thy Test' in Latin
Classes
Classes run Monday - Friday, four terms a year, usually beginning in late January/early February. Students must attend a Form Class every morning from 8:45 - 9:05, where a roll check is performed. Two periods, 9:05 - 10:05 and 10:05 - 11:05 precede a morning break. From 11:25 - 12:25 Period 3 runs, followed by lunch. 1:15 - 2:15 and 2:15 - 3:15 are the last two periods of the school day. Only Year 13 students are permitted to leave the school grounds, and only Year 13 students receive Free Periods in their timetable.
