WETTINGEN
'Wettingen' is a municipality in the district of Baden in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland.
It was founded in 1045. It stands where the Limmat River cuts a gorge through the eastern end of the Jura mountains. It also contains the Lägern, which is the easternmost peak of the Jura and measures around 2,800 feet above sea level.
As of 31 December 2005 the population of Wettingen was 18,647. It has not been classified as a 'city' (''"Stadt"''), despite the fact that it is larger than all neighboring communities, including the 'city' (''"Stadt"'') of Baden (Aargau).
Wettingen is a suburb of Zürich, which is easily accessible by autobahn and commuter rail, and closely connected to Baden.
Wettingen Abbey, founded here in 1227, was dissolved in 1841.
