WHEATON HIGH SCHOOL


'Wheaton High School' is a ninth through twelvth grade high school located in the Wheaton/Glenmont section of Silver Spring, an unincorporated section of Montgomery County, Maryland, United States.
Wheaton is a part of the Montgomery County Public School system. The school is named for the Wheaton area, which is in turn named for Frank Wheaton (1833-1903), a career officer in the Union Army who rose to the rank of major-general while serving before, during, and after the Civil War.
Wheaton High School has three main academies of education: The Academy of Biosciences and Medicine, the Academy of Engineering, and the Academy of Information Technology.
The school is also connected physically to the Thomas Edison High School of Technology, named for the famous American inventor.
The mascot of the school is the Wheaton Knight, who represents the valor, chivalry, and bravery to which all of the students at Wheaton High School aspire.
One notable alumni of Wheaton High School is rock star Joan Jett who gained fame with her bands, The Runaways and The Black Hearts. Joan Jett dropped out of Wheaton and ran away to Los Angeles at the age of 15.
