'White Station High School' is a public high school in Memphis, Tennessee located at 514 South Perkins Road, 38117.
White Station is a member of the Memphis City Schools system. The principal is Mr. David Mansfield. White Station is recognized as one of the best high schools in Memphis, as well as in all of Tennessee. ''Newsweek'' magazine ranked White Station as #621 in the United States and #3 in Tennessee in its 2005 (for the 2004-2005 school year) edition of America's Best High Schools. White Station is classified as a High Priority (School Improvement 1) school under the No Child Left Behind Act. The school mascot is the Spartan; the school colors are green and grey.

Academics

White Station offers two basic academic programs: the Standard Program and the Optional Program. To qualify for the latter program, students must achieve certain scores on standardized tests, maintain certain grades, and meet certain course requirements. Although it is the Optional Program that has gained White Station its reputation as an academic front-runner, there is intermittent local protest that resources are allocated unfairly between the Optional and Standard programs.
White Station has one of the few hearing-impaired programs in the state, is affiliated with a vocational school (Kingsbury Career and Technology Center), and offers a wide selection of Advanced Placement (AP) classes. AP subjects offered include English (Language and Literature), Calculus (AB and BC), Statistics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics (B and C), Computer Science (AB), United States History, World History, European History, Latin (Vergil), French, German, Spanish, Studio Art, Psychology, and Music Theory.
More National Merit Scholars have graduated from White Station than from any other public high school in the state.

Extra-Curricular Activities

White Station is home to one of the nation's best high school boys basketball teams. The Spartans are consistently ranked among the top ten high school basketball teams by ''USA Today''. White Station also has a girls basketball team, soccer teams (M/F), track and field teams (M/F), baseball/softball teams (M/F), a football team (M), a lacrosse team (M/F). rugby club (M/F), a bowling team (M/F), a golf team (M/F), a volleyball team (F), cross-country teams (M/F), ultimate teams (M/F), a swim team (Co-ed), and a water polo team.
White Station has a school newspaper (''The Scroll''), an annual yearbook (''The Shield''), and an art-poem book, (''The Scribbler''), all staffed by students. ''The Scribbler'' is also entirely art and poems submitted by students. White Station has many active clubs in areas including foreign language, mathematics, science, business, government, music, art, film, community service, and more. There is an active Student Council organization, a jazz ensemble, a synchronized swimming team, Model United Nations team, a Mock Trial team, and student-produced morning announcements. White Station excels in local and national competitions of all varieties. White Station students hold many of the All-West Tennessee Band, Orchestra, and Choir positions. Many students even hold spots in the All-State ensembles and Memphis Youth Symphony. They also have an extensive theatre program, with a troupe from the International Thespian Society. They are ITS Troupe 1581 and have major performances each fall, spring, and an annual one-act play festival early second semester.

Demographics and Statistics

According to the 2004 state report on high schools (for the 2003-2004 school year), 1970 students were enrolled at White Station in grades 9-12. There are now an estimated 2200 students at the high school. Of these, 20.8% were economically disadvantaged. Racially, 49.8% were White, 41.8% were African American, 5.6% were Asian, 2.7% were Hispanic, and .2% were Native American. The graduation rate was 81.7%.

All MCS students are required to wear uniforms. [1]
Students wear oxford shirts, polo shirts, turtlenecks, and blouses with "Peter Pan" collars. All shirts are white except for White Station-logo'd green and gray shirts. Sweatshirts might be colored be white, black, navy blue, or tan.
Trousers, shorts, skirts,skorts, and jumpers must be black, tan, or navy blue. Denim clothing and sleeveless shirts are not allowed; similarly, flip-flops and backless shoes are also in violation of the uniform policy. High heels are forbidden if measured over one inch.
