'''Whiz Comics''' was a monthly ongoing comic book anthology series, which was published by Fawcett Comics from February 1940 to June 1952, best known for introducing Captain Marvel. The first issue published of ''Whiz Comics'' was issue #2. As explained in the 2007 edition of the ''Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide'' (pp 592-593), Fawcett created two black-and-white promotional #1 issues for advertisers and for the purposes of securing title copyright. The two copies were identical except they carried different titles: ''Flash Comics'' and ''Thrill Comics''; in this early version of ''Whiz Comics'', the Captain Marvel character was called Captain Thunder. Fawcett ultimately abandoned plans to use the '"Flash Comics'' and ''Thrill Comics'' titles and the introductory Captain Marvel adventure as ''Whiz Comics'' No. 2. The cover art for the first issue showed Captain Marvel throwing a vehicle and was inspired by the cover of ''Action Comics'' No. 1.
It contained the following features depicting adventures of various superhero characters:

Captain Marvel

Ibis the Invincible

Spy Smasher

Golden Arrow

Dan Dare

Lance O'Casey

Scoop Smith
