Early life
Born in Florence, Italy, Kirby was raised in Tallahassee, Florida where he graduated from Florida State University School. His father and step-mother, David Kirby and Barbara Hamby, are both authors and have been professors in the English Department at Florida State University for over 35 years.
In 1995, Kirby received his degree in Biology from Emory University. He obtained his degree in Osteopathic Medicine from Nova Southeastern University in 2000 and did his first year of postgraduate training in Internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center & Miami Heart Institute in Miami Beach, Florida in 2001. While living in Miami for postgraduate training, Kirby decided to apply for '' and ''Temptation Island''. CBS contacted him regarding his ''Survivor'' application but felt his personality would be best suited for ''Big Brother 2''. His dermatology residency training took place in association with Western University/Pacific Hospital of Long Beach where he served as Chief Resident in the Department of Dermatology.
''Big Brother''
In both the Big Brother seasons in which he was a contestant, Kirby forged various alliances that often proved illusory, although his loyalty to the group of males and females known as "Chill Town" was never shaken. Despite never winning a Head of Household competition and being nominated for eviction four times during ''Big Brother 2'', Kirby's strategy of deceit with a Machiavellian flair prevailed and he won the show's $500,000 US top prize by a 5-2 jury vote of evicted contestants.
On July 3, 2006, producers chose Kirby to re-enter the Big Brother house to take part in ''Big Brother 7: All-Stars'', CBS's All-Star edition of the long-running reality show. Kirby and fellow Chill Town alliance member, Mike 'Boogie' Malin duped most of the house guests and survived all the way to the final four. Despite having the most brazen alliance in Big Brother history, Chill Town still worked "secret ninja style" and was able to lure the other house guests into a false sense of safety while simultaneously convincing them to evict their own close friends and alliance members. Kirby was eventually evicted on September 5, 2006, and he joined the seven member jury. His alliance partner, Mike Malin went on to win the top prize.
Post-''Big Brother''
Kirby and Mike Malin were not only allies on the show, they are also friends and business partners. They have invested in several restaurants and nightclubs operated by the Dolce Group.
Kirby has made public appearances at Women's Conferences in several cities throughout North America where he has discussed medical issues as well as his performance and strategies playing ''Big Brother''.
