WILLIAM KOTZWINKLE
'William Kotzwinkle' (1943- in Scranton, Pennsylvania) is an author and screenwriter. His most popular works to date include the novelization of ''E.T. the Extra Terrestrial'' (on which he collaborated with Melissa Mathison, the original screenplay writer, this book contains details behind the story of E.T. not shown in the film) and ''The Bear Went Over the Mountain''.
He has won the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel for ''Doctor Rat'' in 1977, and has also won the National Magazine award for fiction. The most comprehensive critical study of Kotzwinkle's works is Leon Lewis' "Eccentric Individuality in William Kotzwinkle's "The Fan Man", "E.T.", "Doctor Rat" and Other Works of Fiction and Fantasy" (2002).
