WILLIAM MONTAGU-DOUGLAS-SCOTT, 6TH DUKE OF BUCCLEUCH

'William Henry Walter Montagu-Douglas-Scott, 6th Duke of Buccleuch, 8th Duke of Queensberry' KG PC JP DL (9 September 18315 November 1914) was a Scottish Member of Parliament and peer.
Born in London, he was the son of 5th Duke and Charlotte, daughter of the 2nd Marquess of Bath.
He was educated at Eton College and at Christ Church, Oxford. In 1859 he married Lady Louisa Jane Hamilton, VA, Mistress of the Robes to the Queen, the 3rd daughter of the 1st Duke of Abercorn. They had five sons and two daughters (and one son deceased) -

He sat as Conservative Member of Parliament for Midlothian from 1853-1868 and from 1874-1880. He was also Lieutenant-Colonel of the Midlothian Yeomanry from 1856-1872.
He succeeded his father in 1884. He was Captain-General of the Royal Company of Archers, and Lord Lieutenant of Dumfries from 1858.
He was created a Knight of the Thistle in 1875, resigned that Order for the Garter in 1897, and was made a Privy Counsellor in 1901.
