WILLIAM J. SCHERLE

'William Joseph Scherle' (March 14, 1923 - August 27, 2003) was a U.S. Representative from Iowa.
Born in Little Falls, New York, Scherle graduated from St. Mary's Academy New York, New York.
He attended Southern Methodist University of Dallas, Dallas, Texas from 1945 to 1947.
He was in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946, United States Naval Reserve from 1947 to 1954.
He served as assistant division manager with George D. Barnard Co., Dallas, Texas, 1947.
He became a grain and livestock farmer, 1948.
He served as chair of the Mills County Republican Central committee from 1956 to 1964.
He served as member of the State house of representatives from 1960 to 1966.
Scherle was elected as a Republican to the Ninetieth and to the three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1967-January 3, 1975).
He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1974 to the Ninety-fourth Congress.
Deputy administrator, United States Department of Agriculture from 1975 to 1977.
He served as president of a consulting firm in Washington, D.C. from 1977 to 1987.
He died on August 27, 2003, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He was interred in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
