THE WINSTON CHURCHILL SCHOOL (WOKING)
(Redirected from Winston churchill school)
The school was established in 1967 and is situated within easy reach of Knaphill, Bisley, West End, Brookwood, Pirbright and other surrounding areas.
The school is currently classed as a Sports College. Staff involve themselves in a number of after school sporting activities and the school has seen some success over the last few years, such as last year's Year 8 Girls winning the English Schools Football Cup.
The school motto is "Service Before Self". The meaning of the badge is varied; it is commonly believed, however, that it represents the traits of Sir Winston Churchill, whom the school was named after.
The school has recently developed a partnership with the Bishop Ngala school in Kenya, which introduces many opportunities for both schools, including visits by pupils and staff members. The Winston Churchill School has also raised money for facilities, such as a Science Lab and lots of sports equitment, for the Kenyan school.
The last Ofsted report was conducted in 2001 and noted that the 'Winston Churchill School' was a very good school with a number of outstanding features.
Teaching occurs during one hour lessons with P.E. lessons twice a week (more frequent for P.E. GCSE students) with extra Sport, P.E. and "enrichment" style activities, (in the form of after-school clubs).
Note: As of recent weeks (13/14th June 07) Ofsted have revisted the school, and although not officially announced, the students have been told that the 'Winston Churchill School' is a very good school with a number of outstanding features.
★ The school has a magazine called "WOM!" (Winston Official Magazine). It was founded in 2004. As of May 2007, five issues have been produced, each with its own editor.
★ The majority of students who go on to further education will attend one of the four institutions: Woking College, Brooklands College, Godalming College or The Sixth Form College, Farnborough.
★ The Winston Churchill School also has a decent debate team in the form of four year 10 students who took part in the Surrey Great Debate for the first time. 31 schools took part and out of this, Winston Churchill reached the final and came third. we would just like to say well done to them, and thank you to Mrs Southern from the English Department who gave up her own free time to ensure that they got as far as they possibly could have.
★ The school has just upgraded some of the ICT rooms with new desktop computers and the are currently reviewing the other computer rooms.
