WOLFGANG KUBIN

'Wolfgang Kubin' is a German sinologist and director of the University of Bonn's Instituts für Orient- und Asienwissenschaften. In November 2006, he attracted a great deal of attention due to an interview he gave with German broadcaster ''Deutsche Welle'' regarding Chinese literature, most of which he denounced in harsh terms; he referred to Wei Hui's ''Shanghai Baby'' as "garbage" and Jiang Rong's ''Wolf Totem'' as "fascist".[1][2] Though he expressed his admiration for Lu Xun, he said that no contemporary author could compare to him.[3]
