YEAR OF THE DOG... AGAIN
(Redirected from Year of the Dog...Again)
'''Year of the Dog... Again''' is a hip hop album released on August 1 2006. It is the sixth studio album released by New York rap artist DMX. The first singles released from the album were "We in Here" and "Lord Give Me a Sign".
The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and number one on the Rap Charts with 125,000 copies sold in the first week just 1,500 copies short of surpassing Now 22 and achieving number-one status, breaking an unprecedented run for any artist in any genre: DMX's first five albums debuted at number one. [1][2] Despite the high chart position, the album is considered a commercial flop in the United States, reciving very limited radio and TV airplay, and to date has only sold around 750,000 copies. Despite the sales, the album was still certified Platinum.
It is the first of three scheduled LP releases on DMX's new label Sony, after he left Def Jam because of creative differences, however, after switching labels, Def Jam still permitted him access to the many songs he recorded whilst still under the label. A portion of these songs appear on the final cut, mostly with updated production.
Through opinions of fans and critics alike, the album is considered a comeback for X, seeing as his last two releases (Grand Champ and The Great Depression) were relatively unsuccessful (by X's standards ) and did not garner much critical acclaim.
The album consists of two main parts:
# Being mostly club bangers and energetic, lively songs, four of which are produced by Swizz Beatz, including the lead-off single, "We In Here" or the pounding bass-driven, nihilistic, Busta Rhymes assisted "Come Thru / Move."
# Being more downbeat, introspective, sad songs, e.g. "Goodbye", in which X gives his final farewells just in case, and "Lord Give Me a Sign", a dramatic song in which X addresses God for all the "trials and tribulations" he has overcome in his life.
The album spans over many different genre types, for example, "Wrong or Right" contains heavy metal influences with a screaming electric guitar backing and drums, whilst "Walk These Dogs" derives its sound from an old 1970s Jazz musical.
★ Track 2 contains samples from the composition "Nobody but You babe", as performed by Clarence Reid and samples from "Nobodys butt but yours babe" recorded by Blowfly.
