'Youngstown' is a
village in
Niagara County,
New York,
USA. The population was 1,957 at the 2000 census.
The 'Village of Youngstown' is on the western edge of the
Town of Porter and is at the international border with
Canada. It is north of the
City of Niagara Falls.
The
Youngstown Levels, one of the largest amateurs
sailing regattas is held here annually.
History
The village's early growth was under the protection of
Fort Niagara.
The village was destroyed by the British in 1813 during the
War of 1812.
The Village of Youngstown was incorporated in
1854.

Geography
Youngstown is located at (43.248754, -79.042521).
According to the
United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.6
km² (1.4
mi²). 3.0 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (17.14%) is water.
New York State Route 18F (Lower River Road) parallels the Niagara River through the village and intersects
New York State Route 93 in the village.
Adjacent areas
The village is on the east bank of the
Niagara River and is north of
Niagara Falls. Youngstown is west of the
Robert Moses Parkway and at the western end of the Youngstown-Lockport Road (
NY-93). The village is across the Niagara River from the region called
Niagara-on-the-Lake in
Canada and the community of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Toronto is directly across
Lake Ontario to the north.
Demographics
As of the
census of 2000, there were 1,957 people, 809 households, and 564 families residing in the village. The
population density was 651.4/km² (1,687.5/mi²). There were 863 housing units at an average density of 287.2/km² (744.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.42%
White, 1.07%
Native American, 0.05% from
other races, and 0.46% from two or more races.
Hispanic or
Latino of any race were 0.77% of the population.
There were 809 households out of which 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.9% were
married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% were non-families. 25.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the village the population was spread out with 24.3% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.0 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $48,333, and the median income for a family was $60,089. Males had a median income of $47,063 versus $23,333 for females. The
per capita income for the village was $23,705. About 3.0% of families and 3.9% of the population were below the
poverty line, including 4.0% of those under age 18 and 4.7% of those age 65 or over.
