'''Yuva''' (Hindi: युवा, Urdu: یوا, English: ''Youth'') is a Hindi feature film released in 2004 and directed by Indian director Mani Ratnam. Simultaneously made in Hindi (as ''Yuva'') and Tamil (as ''Ayutha Ezhuthu''), this film tells the stories of three men from completely different strata of society and one fateful incident on Calcutta's Hooghly Bridge which changes their lives forever.

Synopsis


Lallan (Abhishek Bachchan) is a criminal don, settled in Calcutta. He loves, marries, and abuses his wife, Sashi Biswas (Rani Mukerji).Michael Mukherjee (Ajay Devgan) is a student leader, who wants politicians like Prosonjeet Bhattacharya (Om Puri), to keep away from college elections; He loves Radhika (Esha Deol). And then there is Arjun (Vivek Oberoi), carefree and spoilt, in love with Mira (Kareena Kapoor), who he just met, and who at one time wanted to relocate to the U.S., but then after meeting Michael, changes his mind and wants to be a politician. The paths of these three young men cross each others', resulting in drastic changes in their lives.

★ The prime objective of the movie was to motivate educated Indian youths to enter politics. The movie truly served its purpose when a group of IITians inspired by the movie formed their own political party Bharat Punarnirman Dal which is contensting the 2007 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. [1]

Hrithik Roshan was offered the role of Lallan Singh, which later went to Abhishek Bachchan.

Simran Nawal was supposed to do Esha Deol's role in the film. [2]

★ Even though the movie was initially critically panned, it was a commercial success and ended up winning the most number of Filmfare Awards that year.

★ The movie was originally titled 'Howrah Bridge'.

★ Abhishek Bachchan was recognised for his powerful on-screen performance with Rani Mukhejee

★ Abhishek Bacchan's career was on a slump before release of Yuva. None of his film was a major box-office success. However his performance in Yuva made industry take serious note of his acting potential. Mani Ratnam has been a sort of Lucky Mascot for the actor. The duo came with another successful movie Guru in 2007.

★ The movie shares some similarities with Amores Perros namely the accident involving three people. how ever the movie overall is very different.
