ClassroomSince time immemorial, people have always been awed by Europe's rich culture, and imposing architectural structures. The birthplace of Western civilization has always been popular to tourists for sight-seeing. However, as volunteer work gains popularity, more travelers are considering service-based vacation, seeking fulfillment in meaningful travels and truly immersing themselves in another culture.

Volunteer Opportunities in Europe

Unlike years ago when volunteer opportunities are only offered in depressed countries, one can now do volunteer work in Europe. You no longer need to go all the way down or up to remote areas to teach kids or assist in wildlife conservation. You could both be a tourist and volunteer-traveler at the same time.

Animal Conservation Parks in Greece

For example, while you help in animal conservation parks in Greece you could observe or get involved in the Greek Orthodox Easter, which is celebrated on April 27th this year. Highlights of the event include impressive fireworks, and feasting on Easter lamb.

Teach English, Learn French

You could be an English tutor while living with a host family in France and learn to speak French simultaneously. To make your French stay even more interesting, watch the magnificent annual Garden Festival in Chateau Chaumont. Gardeners express their creativity in interpreting the theme, which varies each year.

Organic farming in Italy's Wine Region

You could also help preserve timeless art pieces or develop an organic farm in Italy and become a wine Drinking Wineexpert during the Vinitaly (Wine Festival) in Verona, where you get to taste a wide variety of wine. You could volunteer for children with cancer in Spain or care for the elderly in England and sightsee on your free time.

VolunteerAbroad.com

Hundreds of volunteer opportunities in almost 200 countries including Europe can be found on VolunteerAbroad.com, a subsidiary of the experiential travel resource GoAbroad.com. The site also contains vital travel resources and information whether volunteering abroad is for you.

Check out Europe this spring and summer and find out what makes it classic. Also, while you indulge your eyes on the tourist sites, try to get connected with the local community and their culture. You might just make a difference in someone else's life, if not, in yours.
