What a city for photography. The architecture and natural landscape is just so unique and interesting. The only real newer buildings I saw were in the downtown financial district, which is dominated by skyscrapers and office buildings. Step outside of the core though and you're greeted by colourfully ornate Victorian-era houses, stacked nearly on top of each other for as far as the eye can see up and down the neverending hills.
Character is the word that comes to mind when trying to describe the city of San Francisco. It has so much depth and breadth in the character department that it's no wonder it was at one time, and still remains, a cultural epicenter and home to Janis Joplin, Allen Ginsberg, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and so many others.

- Take a walk to Haight-Ashbury
- Catch a Giants baseball game
- Head down to Pier 33 and visit Alcatraz (the most popular National Park in the US). There's only one official company that runs tours of Alcatraz and general admission is $26/person. - Stop by the Fisherman's Wharf at Pier 39 and see the sea lions basking in the sun then grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants along the boardwalk. For a special treat stop by the Candy Baron and stock up on salt water taffy
- For photographers, there's a ton of great little photography stores around the Fisherman's Wharf area. Lots of great deals can be had - don't be afraid to negotiate a little and definitely shop around. I bought one lens only to find out I could've gotten the same lens for almost $100 less at a shop a few blocks away
