If you’re like me and can’t afford a fisheye lens right now, a fisheye lens adapter is the next best thing. I tested one out recently that simply screws into the end of my SLR using the filter threads. It’s Photojojo’s Fisheye Lens Adapter. For shutterbugs, it’s hours of entertainment. I mean, what could be more fun than distorting photos into curved masterpieces?

Here’s how it works: The lens adapter’s super wide angle and short focal length morphs your photos into perfect circles. What was once rectilinear is now curvilinear. I was hooked from the beginning because not only did my new toy show up within 24 hours, it also included a small, plastic Pterodactyl inside the box. Nice touch! Next, I headed to Hawaii and started snapping photos during my excursion.

Features:

0.35x multiplier for any lens

Comes with a 5-year worldwide warranty

Works with any SLR lens: Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus, etc.

Made from high-definition multi-coated optical glass

Works best with lenses between 14mm and 35mm

Captures onto a square frame (corners are dark)

Q: Will The Fisheye Lens work with non-SLR cameras?

A: It may! If you can use standard SLR-style filters on your lens, it should work. Some cameras have adapters that let them use standard SLR-mount filters.

Q: I've got the lens on just fine but my photos are either completely blurry or blurred around the edges. What's the dealio?

A: Could be one of two things: either focal length, or you took off your macro ring. You'll get the best fisheye effect between 14mm and 35mm on your zoom lens. The closer you zoom in the less fishy. If that's still not doing the trick, double check to make sure you've got the macro ring attached to the lens.

Q: Will the lens adapter affect my aperture settings?

A: Nope. You camera's primary lens (the one attached to its body) calls the shots. The Fisheye is just an adapter, so it has no connection to the sensor or shutter.

Q: What's this Ultimate Kit all about?

A: The ultimate kit comes with all seven adapter rings, so you can attach the fisheye to pretty much any lens you happen to meet.

Pricing:

Fisheye lens with one adapter ring $50 to $55

Ultimate kit for almost any lens $85

Extra adapter rings $5 to $10

Florida Film Festival Kicks Off in Orlando
The Florida Film Festival (April 5-14) is hands down one of my favorite events in Orlando. Of course, the selection of films is grand (this year there are 167 from 31 different countries), it’s somewhat likely you’ll rub shoulders with a celebrity or filmmaker, and there’s the...

Maui: Below the Surface
It was a picture-perfect day off the shores of Maui’s Makena Beach as our group of six paddled an outrigger canoe through the calm waters. It had been about 10 minutes or so since we left shore, but already we had arrived at the perfect snorkeling spot. I was still putting on my mask and...
