With summer now in full swing, beach holidays are a favourite escape from the city heat. However, not all beaches are created equal. Some glamorous shorelines attract some of Canada’s and the world’s A-list stars, so Cheapflights.ca has come up with Top 10 Celebrity Beaches in Canada and around the world. Here are the first five!
#1. Tofino, Vancouver Island

This small town at the southern head of Clayoquot Sound, on Vancouver Island’s west coast, is surrounded by rainforest and 80km of wild beaches. The makers of New Moon, the second instalment of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga, filmed some scenes there last year. Brendan Morrison, the hockey player, and Sarah McLachlan, the musician, have homes there, and Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds got married there. Diana Krall has said her "favourite place will always be Tofino". Search and compare cheap flights to Vancouver Island.
#2. Muskoka, Ontario

The recent G8 summit shone a light on Muskoka, but this part of Ontario is well known to Canadians, captains of industry, a huddle of hockey players and celebrities such as Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. There are 600 lakes and wetlands and maple and pine forests. Three of the largest lakes - Muskoka, Joseph and Rosseau - are connected by rivers and a lock system, making exploration a pleasure. Search and compare cheap flights to Toronto.
#3. Miami, USA

South Beach, where else? SoBe is that part of Miami Beach that takes in the lower 23 blocks of the barrier island that separates the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay. Everyone who is anyone vacations at South Beach. Pick a celebrity - Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Rihanna, P Diddy, Stratford-boy Justin Bieber all spotted there. Pick a snowbird - Miami has long been a favourite with Canadians who like to spend the harsh winters on the beach. Search and compare cheap flights to Miami.
#4. South Africa

The eyes of the world have turned to South Africa recently with celebrity-spotting offering a little light relief as favourite teams crash out of the World Cup. During summer time (it’s winter in the Southern Hemisphere now), celebs flock to exclusive districts such as Llandudno, Clifton and Bantry Bay. Gansbaai, a couple of hours’ drive from Cape Town, is famous with the likes of Prince Harry, Brad Pitt, Sting, and Michael Schumacher for its diving - great white shark cage diving. Search and compare cheap flights to South Africa.
#5. Mallorca, Spain

A favourite with German and British vacationers for decades, stars such as Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas, Boris Becker (the German tennis champ), Julio Iglesias (the Spanish singer), Antonio Banderas and Sting all vacation here. Leonard Cohen played a concert in Palma last summer. This year’s Wimbledon tennis champ Rafael Nadal was recently snapped enjoying the waves with his girlfriend (he hails from Manacor). Expect to see some soccer players, should the national team triumph on Sunday night. Away from the celeb spotting, "real" Majorca is wonderfully lush and hilly and the climate is just perfect. Search and compare cheap flights to Majorca.
