Masai Mara and the Great Annual Animal Migration in Kenya

Zebras and Wildebeest

Did you know that the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya is one of the Seven Wonders of the World?

Masai Mara Game Reserve is a Natural Wonder of the World

ZebrasEach year, thousands of wildebeest and zebras migrate from the Serengeti to Masai Mara in search of pastures and settle in the Mara for 3 months in July to October and then cross the Mara River as they move.

One cannot afford not to be moved by what can be considered the ‘biggest wildlife spectacle on earth.’ It’s truly a wonder when you watch animals interacting, hunting, especially by the crocodiles in the Mara River.

Mara, the vast, open grasslands of the Serengeti-Mara is home to over 3 million large mammals. These include over 1.4 million wildebeest, which migrate in an enormous, straggling herd each year between the southern part of the Serengeti to the northern part and back again.

Experience the Migration in Masai Mara

On our morning and afternoon game drives in the Masai Mara, we have a very good chance of seeing the entire major. Plains animals including lions, leopards, buffalo, elephants, rhinos, hyenas, cheetahs, jackals, warthogs and many species of antelope.

In this area we also encounter and learn about the Masai, a proud tribal people struggling to preserve their traditions in the face of modernization.

Discover Masai Mara with Leading Expeditions Safaris. They plan organized tours and holidays to the magical Masai Mara each year during the migration.
