North Lodge Eco Holidays Becomes First Company in Wales to be Awarded STEP Certification

North Lodge Eco Holidays recently became Eco-certified through STI’s Sustainable Travel Eco-certification Program (STEP), becoming the first business in Wales to achieve this milestone.

North Lodge overlooks the Preselli Hills of Pembrokeshire National Park, outside of Cardigan. It is comprised of a bed and breakfast built in the 1850s as well as an Eco Camp situated on four acres, featuring vegetable and herb gardens and fruit trees. North Lodge’s impressive sustainability initiatives include low-pressure showers, solar and wood powered hot water generation, solar powered lighting, recycling, composting, and locally sourced food.

“North Lodge has taken the first steps towards implementing an integrated sustainability management plan. To become Eco-certified, they have drafted a sustainability policy, collected baseline measurements of environmental, social, and economic impacts, and implemented a number of best practices,” said Robert Chappell, STI’s Director of Eco-certification.

STEP, developed by STI, is the world’s first comprehensive, global sustainable tourism eco-certification program offered by a non-profit organization, which is aligned with the minimum baseline Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria (GSTC) and impending global accreditation.
