Once a year in July, Salt Water Cowboys round up the Chincoteague Ponies for auction on Pony Penning Day. During a day trip to Assateague Island I noticed gawkers lining up along the side of the road. I quickly took out my camera and was lucky enough to stumble upon a roundup in progress. 2009.06.28. Driving along a road in the Chincoteague Wildlife Reserve, we saw some stopped cars around Black Duck Trail, which usually means a wildlife sighting. Upon walking up, we saw this enormous snapping turtle - easily the largest wild turtle I've ever seen. I'd guess it was about two feet long and it's likely fairly old. ... travel nature
